The annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 tournament will be in Morris June 7 and 8 this year.

MORRIS – This will be the 12th year of Gus Macker 3-on-3 in Morris and registration has begun.

Gus Macker participants and fans every year enjoy Morris – a nostalgic slice of America nestled along the 96-mile I and M Canal that connects the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River.

Gus likes to think the I and M means Incredible Macker site, although it really means Illinois and Michigan Canal, Julie Applegate, executive director of the Morris Downtown Development Partnership, said in a media release. In essence, both are true. It is a tremendous and welcoming stop along the historic canal, as well as an incredible Macker site.

Abraham Lincoln reportedly received a haircut during a visit to Morris, but that’s just a footnote or maybe a headnote in the history of the nostalgic downtown atmosphere that greets Macker players each year. Registration is right on the Grundy County Courthouse lawn. The courts branch out from there on city streets and registered officials on each court enhance the competition. All together, it presents a basketball festival for family and friends, Applegate said in the release.

This year’s tournament will be June 7 and 8. Registration is open now. Register by visiting macker.com.

A dunk contest, 3-point shooting contest, free-throw contest and a Dream Court for those young dreamers are annual parts of the fun brought to you by the Morris Downtown Development Partnership, as well as gracious sponsor partners. All age groups and levels of experience are welcome.
