COAL CITY – Just before 3 a.m. Monday, the Coal City Fire Protection District was called to a garage fire on Jugtown Road.

“There was heavy fire on arrival” to the garage fire at 3460 N. Jugtown Road, department spokesman Nick Doerfler said Monday afternoon.

The fire did get close to the house of the detached garage, but only melted some siding on the home, he said. Firefighters were able to protect the surrounding buildings from further damage.

One firefighter was treated and released from Morris Hospital for smoke inhalation, Doerfler said. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and was investigated by Coal City and Division 15 investigators. Cost estimates of damage were not immediately available Monday.

Ten departments, as well as the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department assisted Coal City.
