Published: Wednesday, June 4, 2014 9:53 a.m. CDT

A New York man was arrested last week in Channahon as part of an online child pornography sting killed himself after posting bail.

Suresh M. Manjanath, 45, of Tarrytown, New York, met with an undercover investigator May 27 posing as the mother of two young children at a local restaurant, Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold said.

The New York-based publication The Journal News is reporting that Manjanath “jumped to his death from a building on 92nd Street in Jackson Heights about 1:30 a.m. Sunday — less than 32 hours after he was released from police custody in Illinois.” The publication cites its sources as New York City police and medical examiner.

Manjanath solicited lewd sex acts from the investigator and also was distributing child pornography online, Wold said last week. The investigation was conducted by Channahon police and the Illinois Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, where one Channahon officer is assigned.

Manjanath was charged with dissemination of child pornography and faced up to 30 years in prison.

The Journal News reported that Manjanath was booked at the Will County jail about 3 a.m. May 28 and released Friday around 6:15 p.m., jail records show.

Manjanath posted 10 percent of a $1 million bond. Because of his death, the charges are expected to be dismissed, spokeswoman Maura Prossley of the Illinois Attorney General's Office told the The Journal News.
