Minooka Road bridge work continues

MINOOKA – After postponing it both last week and earlier this week, the Illinois Department of Transportation began removing the Minooka Road bridge beams over Interstate 80 Thursday.

The removal work began Thursday night and will continue Friday night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to a news release from IDOT. All through traffic on I-80 will be detoured around the work zone during the removal. The detour will be put in to place again Friday at 6 p.m.

The detour routes are I-80 west traffic will exit at the Minooka interchange travel north to Ridge Road to U.S. 52, then west to Route 47 and south on 47 back to I-80 west. I-80 east traffic will exit at Brisbin Road and travel east on U.S. 6 to Interstate 55 north to I-80 east.

The beams removal is part of a $6.9 million contract with "D" Construction of Coal City for the replacement of the Minooka Road structure.
