MORRIS – The driver involved in the severe single-vehicle accident on Route 6 earlier this month has been released from the hospital.

Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan confirmed Wednesday the driver, an 18-year-old man from Shorewood, was released, but continues to have some medical issues.

Of the four people involved in the accident, two have died and one remains hospitalized.

The front-seat passenger, a 20-year-old man from Minooka, is in fair condition, according to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was taken after the crash. He was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle the day of the accident.

The accident that occurred July 20 killed back-seat passengers James Harris III, 22, from Channahon, and Kendall Forth, 16, of Minooka. They were both ejected from the SUV, which had been traveling east on Route 6 when the driver lost control about 11 p.m. The vehicle left the road and went into the south ditch, where it rolled several times into a neighboring field.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. Forth died the next day.

The driver was transported from the accident scene by helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The driver pulled himself out of the vehicle, Callahan said previously.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident and so far charges have not been filed.

The witness who called in the accident reported to police the vehicle had previously passed her at a high rate of speed.

After passing the witness, the vehicle returned to its lane but veered onto the shoulder and then appeared to over-correct as it tried to get back in its lane, according to the witness report, the sheriff has previously said.
