MORRIS – The Board of Directors at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers has selected Brian Angwin, plant manager at LyondellBasell’s Morris manufacturing site, as its newest board member.

The 12 members of the Morris Hospital Board serve in a volunteer capacity and are responsible for providing oversight and governance to ensure quality care and adherence to the hospital’s mission, setting strategic direction for the hospital, and overseeing hospital policies and financial matters, according to a news release from the hospital.

A native of Michigan, Angwin moved to Morris in 2012 from Clinton, Iowa, where he was plant manager of a similarly sized LyondellBasell site. His previous community involvement has included service on school boards, a community college board, and the board of directors at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton.

Angwin’s previous experience on a hospital board made him an ideal candidate to fill the vacancy left by Cathy Macchietto of Morris, who completed her term after 12 years of service, Board Chairman Michael Rittof said in the news release.

“Brian is a well-respected business leader in our community who came to our board with a good base of health care knowledgeable as a result of his previous board experience,” Rittof said in the news release. “These traits are going to make Brian a great asset to our board here at Morris Hospital.”

Angwin said the invitation to serve on the board was “perfect timing.” He already is a board member for Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association and Chemical Industry Council of Illinois, and said he wanted to get involved in one more organization outside of the manufacturing industry.

“I had heard very positive feedback about Morris Hospital within the community,” Angwin said in a news release. “The hospital has a good reputation; the number of volunteers alone says a lot about the community’s feelings toward the hospital and its mission.”

Angwin and his wife of 32 years, Laura, live in Morris and have two adult children.

The rest of the board is: Kelly Beaty, vice chair; Barry Narvick, secretary; Rodney Engstrom, treasurer; Bruce Baker, immediate past president; Jackie Goggins; Tami Hansen; Dr. Daniel Jurak; Dr. John Roth; Dr. Peter Roumeliotis; and Dr. Dana Howd, medical staff representative to the board.
