Redskins end swimming dual season with victory

PONTIAC — The Morris Lady Redskins pulled out a 94-92 swimming victory over Pontiac Tuesday night by winning and taking a third place in the final event.

Diane Ashley, Heather Lamb, Nicole Michaelowski and Chelsea Cravens teamed up for a 4:47.75 to claim the 400 meter free relay for Morris while Marissa Jones, Cassie Balazic, Katelyn Miller and Aimee Nugent took third in 5:23.18.

It was seven events won by the Lady Redskins. Morris got a pair of individual wins by Ashley along with Cravens while Alyssa Applebee and Heather Lamb also were individual winners.

Cravens doubled in the 100 breaststroke [1:25.65] and the 100 butterfly [1:17.33] while Ashley took the 200 Individual Medley [2:58.49] and the 100 free [1:11.49]. Applebee totaled 210.45 points in the diving while Lamb touched first in the 400 free [5:38.46].

Ashley, Cravens, Lamb and Kayla Onsen were second in 2:25.72 while Katelyn Miller, Michalowski, Meghan Sweet and Marisa Jones wound up third in 2:41.85. Arielle Piper, Kristen Kay, Stephanie Rodriguez and Lauren Sweet were fourth [non-scoring] in 2:42.53. Other Morris exhibition teams were Ashley Olsen, Harmony Alford, Mary Woverton and Stephanie Barretto [3:10.12}; Katie Yard, Luren Sokolinski, Madelyn Flood and Kirsten Olsen [3:10.75]; plus MaryKate Messing, Liz Avila, Jana Berryman and Sarah Sidy [3:11.00].

Aimee Nugent was third [2:44.01], Lamb fourth [2:44.09] and Carolyn McLaughlin sixth [3:09.07] in the 200 freestyle. Kayla Onsen [:33.15] was second, Jones {:33.53] fourth and Lauren Sweet [:35.77] sixth in the 50 meter free. Woverton was fourth [123.30 points] and Alex Rossi fifth [104.25] in the diving.

Cassie Balazic was fourth in 1:30.49 and Meghan Sweet fifth [1:32.09] next in the 100 fly. Kayla Onsen was fifth [1:18.05] and Sokolinski sixth [1:29.03] in the 100 free. Nugent [5:59.87] was second in the 400 free while Katie Lincoln was sixth in 7:02.60.

Applebee, Meghan Sweet, Michalowski and Kayla Onsen were second in 2:16.23 in the 200 free relay. Rhiannon Baklazic, Miller, Nugent and Jones were fourth in 2:21.45. McLaughlin, Maggie Ascolani, Kay and Lauren Sweet were fifth [2:34.54] while Ashley Olsen, Avila, Barretto and Gen Toussaint took seventh in 2:38.83. Messing, Bryanna Niswonger, Berryman and Rodriguez were eighth in 2:49.11.

Miller [1:28.98] was second, Meghan Sweet [1:34.49] third and Piper [1:37.63] fourth in the 100 backstroke. Rodriguez was third [1:38.16] and Applebee sixth [1:43.69] in the 100 breast. Applebee, Ascolani, Lincoln and McLaughlin were fifth in 6:03.47 in the  400 relay.

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
