Local teams set second-round playoff games

Comments (...)

After surviving the opening week of playoffs, all three area high school football teams will play on Saturday, Nov. 7, as they continue their quests for state titles.

Thirteenth-seeded Morris (6-4) will be the only one of the three with a home game, taking on fifth-seeded Mendota (8-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Coal City (8-2), the seventh-seeded team in its bracket, will travel north to Richmond to play second-seeded Richmond-Burton (9-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Morris and Coal City are both playing in the 4A bracket.

In 7A, Minooka, the No. 3 seed, will play the No. 2 seed, East St. Louis (Sr.) at 3 p.m. Saturday in East St. Louis. Both teams are 8-2.

Morris Community High School has announced the following regarding ticket sales for the second-round game.

Reserved ticket holders and MCHS students can purchase tickets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 5. From noon to 3 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 6, tickets will be available to the general public.

Reserved ticket holders will be able to purchase their same seats at their specified selling times in the high school office. The general public will be able to purchase remaining reserved seats or general admission tickets.

MCHS fans are urged to purchase tickets in advance to avoid standing in long lines prior to game.

The Illinois High School Association has established the ticket prices for second-round playoff games as $5 for anyone entering the stadium, with the exception of “Baby in Arms,” who shall be admitted free.

Gates will open at noon Saturday. Spectators who plan to tailgate are asked to do so across the street from the student parking lot and football stadium in the city park.

I suppose it's been a pretty good week for the Chicago Cubs ... though there's a ton of work left to be done if the Cubs want to get back in a position to contend for a championship.

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
