Primaries are few, but contested races await in November

Filings for 2010 election closed at 5 p.m. Monday, resulting in a primary contest for the Grundy County Board among Republicans in District 2, and a District 1 board incumbent not seeking re-election.

Five Republicans have filed for Grundy County Board from District 2, requiring a primary vote on Feb. 2.
Incumbent Republican Philip Galloway of Nettle Creek Drive, Morris, did not file for another term on the board from District 1.

Republican Ron Marx, 431 E. Washington St., filed petitions to challenge Democrat Sheriff Terry Marketti in the November general election.

County Board Dist. 2

In County Board District 2, Republicans Eric Rasmusson, 2425 Gore Road; Bronco Bojovic, 1806 Lisbon; and Martha Shugart, 1570 Periwinkle, filed petitions. Previously Chris Balkema, 26617 Samantha, Channahon, and incumbent John Galloway, 111 Carriage Drive, filed.

Three will be nominated in the primary to run in the November general election.

Incumbent Democrats Michael Lutz, 395 Twilight Drive, and Jacqueline McKinney, 502 Kilheeney Drive, Minooka, filed for re-election from District 2.

County Board Dist. 1

Five candidates have filed petitions for Grundy County Board from District 1.

Incumbent Democrats Greg Redford, 922 Shabbona, and Terry Pfaff, 1405 DuPont, filed for another term on the board.

Republicans Ralph Wagner, 819 Burla; David Welter, 217 Buchanan; and John Roth, 1385 Fremont Ave., also filed in District 1.

County Board Dist. 3

In District 3, Republican Dave Boggs, 513 S. Mitchell, Braceville, filed to challenge the three Democratic incumbents in the November election.

The Democratic incumbents, all of whom filed petitions at 8 a.m. last Monday, are William Rodosky, 5460 Ransom Road, Verona; Ann Gill, 710 Pheasant, Coal City; and Richard Joyce, 495 Garfield, Coal City.

County-wide Offices

Treasurer Marcy Miller, 1264 Brendan, and Grundy County Clerk Lana Phillips, 1630 Jamey Court, both Democrats, were the only ones from either party to file for those positions.
 
Beyond Grundy

Voters in Grundy County in 2010 will vote for representatives in both Springfield and Washington, D.C. Candidates who filed for those races were:

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
